Local Information

The weather in Lawrence in early October is moderate, with an average high in the mid 60's Fahrenheit (around 18 degrees Celsius) and an average low in the low 40's Fahrenheit (around 5 degrees Celsius).

The conference will be held in Snow Hall on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22. Conference talks will be in Snow 120. Campus parking is available behind Snow Hall and Carruth O'Leary, near the football stadium and further away in the parking garages. Parking is open and free on Saturday and Sunday except in the parking garages and at meters. Bus service between campus and downtown is available every day except Sunday. KU offers a guest wireless network, KUGUEST. You can access this though your wireless devices by selecting the KUGUEST network. KU is also a member the eduroam network. If you are visiting from another eduroam institution, you can use your eduroam login. Please consult your technical department for eduroam setup instructions before leaving your institution.

Downtown Lawrence has a large number of restaurants, with many price ranges and a wide variety of cuisines. The Oread Hotel just off campus has several restaurants with many price ranges. KU Dining Services may not be available on SAT and SUN.

The University of Kansas has two excellent museums: a Natural History Museum, and the Spencer Art Museum.

Lawrence also has a widely-known music scene, with a number of clubs downtown, various folk music venues around town, and several concert halls.

Attractions in Kansas City:
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas city has some world class collections. For instance, there is one room displaying four original pieces of Claude Monet, and one room with works of Caravaggio, there is also a small but excellent Chinese collection dated back to the Shang dynasty.
