Students may be exempted from the language requirement in languages not offered at KU, provided that the University has some way of verifying reading, writing and speaking proficiency in that language. Sign up for the suggested course.
Would you like to continue your study of the language?
Arrange with the department offering the language to take a proficiency exam. If the department determines that your abilities are equal to a student having taken four semesters of the language, the requirement will be waived.
Meet with a placement advisor in the department offering the language to determine proper placement. Upon successful completion of a course above fourth semester, you will have fulfilled the requirement.
